The new fund will target high-growth businesses across Saudi Arabia and the GCC, reinforcing the Kingdom’s push to attract global private capital.
Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) and Brookfield have reached the first close of a new Middle East-focused private equity fund. The close amounts to approximately USD 2 billion from PIF and a group of regional and international institutional investors.
Why You Should Care
The fund reflects growing international appetite for private equity opportunities in the Gulf. It also supports Saudi Arabia’s ambition to deepen its capital markets and attract more global investment as it continues to diversify its economy.
The Details
Around half of the fund’s capital is expected to be deployed in Saudi Arabia. This seeks to create additional financing opportunities for businesses operating in sectors central to the Kingdom’s economic transformation.
Brookfield Middle East Partners (BMEP) will pursue buyouts, minority growth investments, and other private equity transactions across financial services, business services, consumer sectors, industrials, technology, and healthcare.
The fund will invest across the Middle East, with a particular focus on Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) markets. Moreover, Brookfield aims to leverage its investment teams in Riyadh alongside its global network to identify investment opportunities across the region.
PIF joined the fund as an anchor investor, alongside other institutional partners. The sovereign wealth fund said the investment aligns with its strategy of generating long-term returns while building global partnerships that strengthen Saudi Arabia’s investment ecosystem.
Brookfield will also commit USD 500 million to the fund, maintaining its practice of investing alongside its partners.
“Our partnership with Brookfield is designed to help anchor international private equity into Saudi Arabia and the region. It will also accelerate deal flow while continuing to bring world-class expertise to the local capital market ecosystem,” said Yazeed A. Al-Humied, Deputy Governor and Head of MENA Investments at PIF
As part of the initiative, Brookfield will also introduce the Brookfield Academy in Saudi Arabia. Established in 2019, the program provides professional development and interactive learning opportunities for investment professionals.
The Ripple
The launch highlights Saudi Arabia’s continued effort to attract international investment managers while expanding the region’s private capital ecosystem.
For businesses, particularly growth-stage companies, larger pools of private equity capital could create new funding options beyond traditional financing. For global investors, the fund signals continued confidence in the GCC’s long-term growth outlook.
What to Watch
The next milestone will be how quickly Brookfield deploys the fund’s capital and where its first investments land. The pace of dealmaking will offer an early indication of private equity activity across Saudi Arabia and the wider GCC, while providing a gauge of international investor confidence in the region’s next phase of growth.
