Egypt is piloting QR code-based digital visas at Cairo International Airport. This will allow travelers from 118 eligible countries to secure a visa before departure instead of using paper stickers.

Beginning August 1, Egypt will pilot a digital visa on arrival system across all arrival terminals at Cairo International Airport. This will replace traditional paper visa stickers with QR codes as part of a broader effort to modernize the country’s border procedures.

Eligible travelers from 118 countries will be able to generate a Visa QR Code before departure through Egypt’s official online portal or mobile application. Those who do not apply in advance can still obtain the code upon arrival using self-service kiosks at Cairo International Airport or through travel agencies.

Border officials will verify the QR code by scanning it alongside the traveler’s passport, eliminating the need for traditional paper visa stickers.

During the pilot phase, the QR code system will operate alongside the current paper visa process before becoming the standard method for visa-on-arrival. Following the Cairo trial, the state plans to expand the system to airports across Egypt.
