The financing package includes USD 5.9 million (EGP 300M) for microenterprises and USD 4.9 million (EGP 250 M) for small and medium-sized businesses. This aims to support financial inclusion and entrepreneurship across Egypt.

Fawry has secured a USD 10.8 million (EGP 550M) financing facility for its wholly owned subsidiary, Fawry MSME Finance, from Egypt’s Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (MSMEDA). The funding will expand access to financing for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). This aims to reinforce the company’s commitment to financial inclusion and empowering entrepreneurs.

Why You Should Care

The financing is part of Egypt’s broader push to improve access to credit for smaller businesses while encouraging informal enterprises to join the formal economy. The initiative aligns with Egypt Vision 2030 and supports government efforts to increase financial inclusion, strengthen entrepreneurship, and stimulate sustainable economic growth.

The Details

Founded in 2008, Fawry is an Egypt-based digital-only financial services platform serving the banked and unbanked population.

The facility allocates USD 5.9 million (EGP 300M) to microenterprises and USD 4.9 million (EGP 250M) to small and medium-sized enterprises.

Fawry said it will use the funds through its digital lending platform, which leverages data-driven credit assessments to provide businesses with faster access to working capital and expansion financing.

Through its digital lending platform, Fawry aims to leverage advanced technology and data-driven credit assessment capabilities. This is because it aims to deliver fast, convenient, and accessible financing solutions. Moreover, it seeks to help businesses meet their working capital requirements, expand operations, and create sustainable economic value.

“Through our digital lending platform, we will be able to extend fast, efficient, and accessible financing to a greater number of micro, small, and medium enterprises across all governorates, supporting both new ventures and the expansion of existing businesses. In doing so, we aim to strengthen their contribution to Egypt’s economic development by helping them meet the evolving needs of the local market,”

Eng. Ashraf Sabry, Chief Executive Officer of Fawry

The Ripple

The agreement highlights the growing role of fintech companies in delivering credit to underserved businesses, an area traditionally dominated by banks. By expanding digital lending, Fawry is positioning itself as a key partner in Egypt’s efforts to formalize businesses and broaden access to financial services.

The initiative also supports MSMEDA’s mandate to increase financing for smaller enterprises, which account for a significant share of Egypt’s private sector activity and employment. Bringing more businesses into the formal economy could improve their access to financing, government incentives, and new market opportunities.

What to Watch

As demand for alternative financing continues to grow, the new facility gives Fawry additional capacity to scale lending to underserved businesses across Egypt. The partnership with MSMEDA also reinforces the increasing role of fintechs in advancing financial inclusion and supporting the formalization of SMEs, positioning digital lenders to play a larger role in the country’s entrepreneurial ecosystem as Egypt pursues its Vision 2030 objectives.
