The investment lifted Lucid’s stock more than 20% after the EV maker’s shares plunged to record lows earlier this month.

Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal has acquired a 5% stake in Lucid Motors. This sent the electric vehicle maker’s shares soaring after they hit record lows earlier this month.

Why You Should Care

The investment highlights how prominent regional investors continue to identify opportunities in companies facing short-term market pressure. For MENA investors, it also underscores the growing influence of Gulf capital in global industries such as electric mobility, where long-term fundamentals can outweigh near-term volatility.

The Details

Prince Alwaleed disclosed the acquisition in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, revealing ownership of approximately 19.5 million Class A shares in Lucid. He later said on X that the stake was built when the company’s market capitalization was below USD 2 billion and that the filing was made in accordance with U.S. regulatory requirements.

Following the disclosure, Lucid shares surged more than 20% to around USD 7.80 after reaching an intraday high of USD 8.48. The rally followed a difficult period for the automaker, whose shares had fallen to an all-time low earlier this month and remain down more than 70% over the past year.

The Ripple

Prince Alwaleed’s investment adds another high-profile shareholder to Lucid at a time when investors have questioned the outlook for many electric vehicle manufacturers. The move suggests that some long-term investors see value emerging after the sector’s sharp valuation reset.

The investment also comes as Lucid continues expanding its manufacturing footprint in Saudi Arabia, reflecting the company’s broader strategic ties to the Kingdom and its ambitions to serve regional and international markets.

What to Watch

Investors will now be looking to Lucid’s upcoming earnings, production updates, and delivery figures to assess whether improving investor sentiment is matched by stronger operating performance. The company’s ability to narrow losses and execute on its manufacturing plans will be key to sustaining its recent momentum.
