Sharjah’s Ruwad Approves USD 430K to Finance Three New SME Projects

The funding package supports industrial, professional services, and hospitality ventures. This will bring the foundation’s total approved financing in 2026 to more than USD 871 thousand (AED 3.2M).

Why You Should Care

Access to capital remains one of the biggest hurdles for startups and SMEs across the UAE. Sharjah’s Ruwad Foundation continues to expand financing for local entrepreneurs, with its latest approvals supporting businesses across manufacturing, professional services, and hospitality. The move reflects the emirate’s ongoing efforts to diversify its economy while encouraging homegrown entrepreneurship.

The Details

The Project Financing Committee at the Sharjah Foundation for Supporting Pioneering Entrepreneurs (Ruwad), which operates under the Sharjah Economic Development Department, approved financing for three new entrepreneurial ventures worth a combined USD 430 thousand (AED 1.577M) during its third meeting of 2026.

The approved projects span three sectors:

  • An industrial project secured USD 109K (AED 400K) through Ruwad’s direct financing program.
  • A professional services business specializing in quality certification, assessment, standards, and standardization received USD 48K (AED 177K) through the foundation’s direct asset financing program.
  • A hospitality venture established jointly by five entrepreneurs obtained USD 272.3K (AED 1M) through the indirect financing program in partnership with a local bank.

During the meeting, committee members also reviewed the remaining financing budget allocated for 2026, assessed applications submitted for new funding, and reconsidered several previous financing decisions before issuing updated approvals.

The Ripple

The latest approvals bring the total number of projects backed by Ruwad in 2026 to seven, with cumulative financing reaching USD 874 thousand (AED 3.211M) by the end of July.

The funding also highlights Ruwad’s use of both direct lending and bank-backed financing models, allowing entrepreneurs across different sectors to access capital through financing structures tailored to their business needs. Continued support for SMEs aligns with broader efforts across the UAE to strengthen private sector growth and encourage innovation beyond traditional industries.

What to Watch

With seven projects approved so far this year, Ruwad is expected to continue deploying capital through its direct and bank-backed financing programs as Sharjah advances its entrepreneurship agenda. Future funding rounds could further expand support for SMEs across sectors that align with the emirate’s economic diversification priorities.
