Foundation Stone Laid for USD 20M Thai ‘Hi-Tech’ Factory in West Qantara
  • Hi-Tech lays the foundation for a USD 20M sportswear factory in Qantara West in presence of SCZONE’s Chairperson and Ismailia Governor.
  • Hi-Tech Thailand’s first Egyptian investment will create 2,000 jobs and produce 6 million garments annually.
  • Qantara West solidifies its role as a regional textiles hub, supporting global supply chains and Egypt-Thailand relations.

Hi-Tech

What happened? Chairperson of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), Walid Gamal El-Din and Ismailia Governor Akram Galal laid the foundational stone for Hi-Tech. Hi-Tech North Africa is a sportswear factory that marks the first Thai in both Egypt and SCZONE.

The factory is located on an area of 64,000 sqm in the West Qantara Zone. The total investments valued at USD 20 million (EGP 1 billion).

Who are they? Hi-Tech Thailand is a global sportswear manufacturing company, producing for several international brands. It operates 10 factories across four countries, seven of which are in Thailand, and one one each in Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. Moreover, it currently employs over 14,000 workers and produces more than 60 million garments annually. This generates over USD 220 million in annual revenue.

What are the benefits? The project is projected to generate around 2,000 direct job opportunities and once operational it aims to produce 6 million pieces annually. This is in order to meet global market demands with a particular focus on Europe and America.

West Qantara Zone

Why does this matter? The factory is set to open early next year further cementing West Qantara as a hub for textiles and apparel production locally and regionally. Additionally, this step supports the localization of industries such as textiles, apparel and food. This is significant in the light of the challenges facing supply chains. This is because it supports the integration between public and private sectors to support Egyptian exports.

It also adds a new success story to the Qantara West area, distinguished by its skilled labor and agricultural backing. Moreover, this supports the localization of industries such as textiles, apparel, and food industries, thus supporting global value chains. This is particularly important in light of global challenges facing supply chains. These challenges require further effort and integration between the public and private sectors to support Egyptian exports in these high-demand sectors.

Mr Walid, Chairperson of SCZONE, also revealed that currently 130 factories are under construction simultaneously which is an unprecedented occurrence for the Zone.

Egypt-Thailand Relations At the event, SCZONE Chairperson, Mr Walid, expressed that the project is a milestone in Egypt-Thailand economic relations. He further expressed that the SCZONE, especially Qantara West, becoming a launchpad for Thai investments in Egypt represents a significant achievement. This is because this project represents three years of efforts made by SCZONE to attract major global investments.
