Fuel Prices Drop in Morocco & UAE After Global Oil Prices Fall

What happened? Current global oil prices are decreasing as the trade war continues to impact the global demand for oil.

A report from Morocco’ s Conseil De La Concurrence, recorded in gasoline and diesel prices in Moroccan markets. 

Global Decline This coincides with a global drop in oil prices. In the Eurozone, inflation has slowed with energy prices decreasing for the first time in four months.

What is the report about? The report monitored the implementation of commitments made by wholesale diesel and gasoline distribution companies. 

The report concluded that the companies did in fact stick by their commitments in the last quarter of 2024. In this,  they lowered local fuel prices after the global cost of buying fuel dropped. During this time, a total 2.2 billion liters of diesel and gasoline were sold in Morocco

Fuel Price Drop in Morocco The report also looked at how nine fuel distribution companies in Morocco responded to lower global fuel prices. For gasoline, the companies passed on the full reduction in global fuel prices to the local price. Thus, when it got cheaper to purchase gasoline from the global markets, they followed through and lowered the local price by the same amount. 

As for diesel, the companies lowered the local price even lower than the reduction in the global purchasing cost. The price of diesel dropped by more than 0.2 dirhams per liter beyond the decrease in purchasing costs.

The companies’ gross profit was 1.28 dirhams per liter for diesel and 1.67 dirhams per liter for gasoline. Moreover, the report indicated that the profit margin was a little lower than usual given that the profits

Prices in the UAE The UAE’s Fuel Prices Monitoring Committee reduced the prices in April 2025 in comparison to the previous month. 

The prices are set monthly by the Ministry of Energy based on the average global oil price.  This is based on whether it rises or falls, after taking into consideration the operational costs of distribution companies.

Thus, depending on the type of car, filling a gas tank in April could cost between 7.65 UAE dirhams and 11.84 UAE dirhams less than last month.
