Saudi’s Capital Market Authority (CMA) Board approved the expansion of the investor base in the Parallel Market ‘Nomu’. It approved opening the Parallel Market
to holders of a bachelor’s degree in a number of specialties related to the field of securities. Thus, allowing them to qualify as eligible investors Nomu. Furthermore, this decision, which is effective immediately, aims to enhance liquidity and positively reflect on the market.
This comes as part of a package of amendments and facilitations approved for several new criteria. It is also part of the easing of the requirements that investors must meet to qualify to be eligible for trading and investing in Nomu.
Easing Conditions
According to the decision, graduates holding a bachelor’s degree in Finance or Investment or Accounting are now eligible to invest in Nomu. Previously, those qualified were holders of master’s degrees in finance, accounting, or any field related to securities. Additionally, those holding professional certifications such as the SOCPA fellowship or other previously approved professional qualifications were also eligible.
The CMA also approved easing the criteria imposed on individual investors who wish to enter and invest in Nomu. In this it decreased the total value of executed trades an invested must have made in the capital market during the past 12 twelves to qualify for investing in Nomu. It decreased it to SAR 20 million from SAR 40 million.
The CMA now allows current members of boards of directors or specialized committees of Parallel Market companies to invest.This approval also covers individuals who previously held these positions in companies listed on the Parallel Market.
