- Claude’s new update lets users manage files, apps, and repetitive tasks directly from their devices with AI assistance.
- The AI agent can interact with both connected apps and local software, performing tasks with user permission.
- Claude aims to rival OpenClaw, offering context-aware automation while maintaining safeguards against errors and security threats.
Claude
The AI giant, Anthropic, added a major upgrade to its Claude large language model, giving it the ability to perform tasks on a user’s computer. The update is part of Claude Code and Claude Cowork tools. It allows the AI to open files, navigate applications, run tools, and fill spreadsheets automatically.
Claude prioritizes connected apps like Slack or Calendar when responding to requests. If no direct integration exists, it can work locally by navigating the device’s interface, pointing and clicking as needed. Users are always asked for permission before any task is executed.
A demonstration video by Anthropic shows Claude receiving a request from a mobile device to export a pitch deck, then attaching it to a scheduled meeting invitation. In another example, the AI resizes 150 photos and adds logos to each, then confirms the task is complete.
Task Automation
The AI can also handle recurring tasks, such as scanning emails daily. Anthropic emphasizes that Claude retains context across sessions, improving efficiency over time. However, the company cautions that the technology is still evolving. Complex tasks may require a second attempt, and navigating through the screen is slower than direct integrations.
Security is a major focus. Anthropic has added safeguards against malicious instructions and potential prompt injection attacks. These protections aim to keep user systems safe while enabling more complex AI-driven automation.
Currently, the new capabilities are available for Claude Pro and Claude Max subscribers on macOS. Users must enable the feature in the desktop app settings to start using it.
With OpenClaw gaining attention earlier this year, Claude’s update marks another step in the rise of AI agents capable of completing real-world tasks on demand. For businesses in the MENA region, this could improve productivity, streamline workflows, and expand the potential for AI-assisted operations.
