Lyrebird Health
What happened? Melbourne-based AI medical startup, Lyrebird Health, raised USD 12 million in funding. The round was led by Fire V Capital and UK-based Octopus Ventures with participation from Startmate. This latest funding round puts the company at USD 50M valuation.
What is next? With the newly acquired funding, the company aims to support product enhancements. Additionally, it aims to improve integration with electronic medical record systems which are the digital platform used to store patient information. Most importantly, it aims to expand into the UK and Middle East markets.
Octopus Ventures partner Uthish Ranjan said “Their early success in the UK gives us strong conviction that they’re well-positioned to scale in our local market.”
Clinical Documentation
Who are they? Developed in early 2023 by Kai Van Lieshout and Linus Talacko, Lyebird’s Health’s platform generates clinical documentation from doctor-patient conversations. The company reports that this process saves clinicians 6-8 minutes per consultation.
Clinical documentation is the detailed records healthcare professionals must complete after each patient visit. It is a critical part of healthcare, but also time-consuming, often taking hours per day for clinicians.
How does it work? The company’s AI medical scribe listens during consultations and produces written records. Thus, this medical scribe is essentially an automated note-taking system. Moreover, this allows doctors to focus more on patients than paperwork.
“This administrative burden is driving talented healthcare professionals from the field at precisely the moment we need them most,” Said Chief executive and co-founder of Lyrebird Health Kai Van Lieshout.
