  • Dubai introduces a unified, government-backed system allowing hotel guests to register digitally before arrival for faster check-ins.
  • Biometric scans and ID uploads streamline guest verification, reducing front-desk congestion and improving hotel operational efficiency.
  • The system sets a new benchmark for coordinated, citywide contactless hospitality experiences across MENA.

Dubai

Dubai’s hotels are moving fully digital. The city introduced a citywide contactless hotel check-in system. Guests can now upload their ID, add a biometric scan, and confirm details on their phone before arriving. Once registered, the information stays valid until the ID expires. Future stays require only a quick facial scan.

This is a government-backed initiative, not a chain-specific app. It was rolled out under the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism’s digital agenda. The rollout is citywide, covering all licensed hotels and holiday homes. Hotels will be able to integrate the system through existing apps or websites.

This means that travellers can now skip reception desks and head straight to rooms. Thus, hotels will be able to reduce front-desk congestion and paperwork, streamlining arrivals.

Contactless Check-In

Globally, digital, contactless hotel services are growing. For instance, Alliants reports that more than 70% of hotels will adopt mobile or contactless check-ins by 2025.

While contactless check-ins are widespread globally, the adoption remains mostly fragmented. Thus, this kind of unified citywide model is unique to Dubai. It aims to allow all hotels to provide the same seamless experience.

Other institutions in Dubai, like its airports and retail sector, already use biometrics and contactless payments extensively. Smart Gates at Dubai International Airport speed passenger clearance, while new systems at Al Maktoum International Airport aim for fully automated check-ins.

The update shortens the time between airport arrival and room access. Hotels can manage arrivals more efficiently, while standardisation improves the overall guest experience. Dubai’s citywide system offers a glimpse of how coordinated digital solutions can reshape hospitality across the region.
