MSMEDA

What happened? MSMEDA, with World Bank support, has partnered up with Visible.vc and Egypt’s top VCs to launch a unified portfolio reporting platform.

Spearheaded by Foundation Ventures, the effort brings together Algebra Ventures, Sawari Ventures, Shorooq, and Endure Capital. In addition, Camel Ventures, Climate Resilient Africa FundDenVC, DisrupTech Ventures, and LoftyInc Capital. Furthermore, their collective aim is to standardize how startups report data to investors.

What is the purpose? This initiative aims to streamline reporting for general partners (GPs) and portfolio companies alike. Furthermore, it focuses on improving data accuracy, availability, and reliability across the ecosystem. By defining and unifying key metrics, it aims to establish best practices and create standardized reports for the entire market. Ultimately, they aim to foster transparency to boost Egypt’s appeal to international investors.

“We are excited about enhancing Egypt’s investment attractiveness by providing the necessary transparency to encourage foreign direct investment as well as more opportunities for local startups to access capital,” said Mazen Nadim, Managing Partner of Foundation Ventures.

Reporting

Why does this matter?  Currently, reporting practices lack standardization, with each VC requesting different metrics, formats, and schedules. This inconsistency leads to inefficiencies, as startups spend considerable time preparing customized reports, while investors face challenges in analyzing fragmented and inconsistent data.

Visible.vc Partnership Visible.vc was chosen by all participants after a competitive review. Furthermore, the platform’s team is co-developing the rollout with Egyptian GPs to ensure local fit.

The rollout of the platform is expected to wrap by the end of Q2 2025. Additionally, The first ecosystem-wide data report will be published after a year of standardized collection.

Bottom line: Egypt is betting that clean, reliable data will drive investor confidence and make startups easier to back, build, and scale.
