  • MSMEDA has funded 51,000 projects in Alexandria since 2014, supporting small businesses and creating 110,000 jobs.
  • EGP 2.2B in total financing went to young entrepreneurs and existing businesses across key industrial zones.
  • Officials aim to integrate more MSMEs into Egypt’s formal economy and expand access to tax and financial benefits.

MSMEDA

The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (MSMEDA) announced it has pumped EGP 2.2 billion (USD 45M) into Alexandria from July 2014 to May 2025. That funding helped launch and support 51,000 small and micro projects  and created over 110,000 job opportunities. Of this amount, EGP 102 million was allocated to infrastructure, community development, and training projects.

This was revealed during a recent meeting between Alexandria’s Governor Lieutenant General Ahmed Khaled and MSMEDA CEO Bassel Rahmy. The two discussed ways to enhance cooperation in supporting micro, small, and medium enterprises, and facilitating services for entrepreneurs. This especially with the aim of focusing on industrial zones like Borg El Arab and El-Merghem.

The meeting was also attended by Dr. Raafat Abbas and Mr. Mohamed Medhat, deputy CEOs of MSMEDA, along with several senior officials from Alexandria Governorate.

The goal is to integrate more MSMEs into the formal economy, expand their access to funding, and help young entrepreneurs launch and grow their businesses.

This aligns with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly’s directives who also chairs MSMEDA’s board. These directives include boosting coordination between state entities and expanding access to financial, technical, and advisory services. The focus is on empowering youth, women, and recent graduates to launch businesses. Additionally, tapping into investment zones and local production hubs across governorates.

Tax Incentives

MSMEDA is also working with the Ministry of Finance and Tax Authority to activate new tax breaks under Law 6 of 2025. The law offers tax incentives to support entrepreneurs and businesses. This includes a tax rate starting from 0.4% of annual revenues for enterprises generating EGP 500 thousand. This will reach 1.5% for businesses with  EGP 10–20 million in annual revenue. Additionally, it will include exemptions from several types of taxes and stamp duties that were previously imposed on small enterprises.

As part of the meeting, both the Governor and the CEO of MSMEDA handed out direct loan checks to five entrepreneurs. They also presented licenses for regularized businesses and classification certificates to another five entrepreneurs.
