Mubadala Energy Unveils Major Gas Find in Indonesia

– Mubadala Energy, headquartered in Abu Dhabi, announced a significant gas discovery at the Tangkulo-1 Exploration well off North Sumatra, Indonesia.

– The well, drilled to a depth of 3,400 meters in 1,200 meters of water depth, encountered an 80-meter gas column within a high-quality Oligocene sandstone reservoir.

– Testing revealed impressive flow rates of 47 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscf/d) of high-quality gas and 1,300 barrels of condensate, signaling transformative potential for Indonesia’s and Southeast Asia’s energy landscape.

Mubadala Energy, based in Abu Dhabi and leading the South Andaman Gross Split operation, announced a substantial gas discovery at the Tangkulo-1 Exploration well off North Sumatra, Indonesia.

This marks Mubadala Energy’s second deep-water success in the area following the Layaran-1 well discovery, according to state news agency WAM.

The Tangkulo-1 well, penetrating 3,400 meters in 1,200 meters of water depth, revealed an 80-meter gas column within a high-quality Oligocene sandstone reservoir, supported by comprehensive data collection.

During testing, the well exhibited promising performance, yielding 47 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscf/d) of high-quality gas and 1,300 barrels of condensate, with an estimated capacity of 80-100 mmscf/d of gas and over 2,000 barrels of condensate.Mansoor Mohammed Al Hamed, CEO of Mubadala Energy, hails the discovery’s transformative potential, envisioning a significant impact on Indonesia’s and Southeast Asia’s energy landscape, highlighting South Andaman’s status as a premier energy prospect.
