  • Waymo raised USD 16B in a major funding round backed by Mubadala Capital and global investors, valuing Alphabet’s autonomous unit at scale.
  • The capital will support global expansion, fleet growth, and continued investment in safety as Waymo rolls out autonomous rides across more cities.
  • Already operating driverless ride-hailing in six US cities, Waymo plans rapid US growth and a UK launch later this year.

Waymo, Alphabet Inc.’s autonomous driving unit, raised USD 16 billion in an investment round. The financing was led by Dragoneer Investment Group, DST Global, and Sequoia Capital. It also included investments from Andreessen Horowitz, Mubadala Capital, Bessemer Venture Partners, Silver Lake, Tiger Global, and T. Rowe Price. The round also saw participation from BDT & MSD Partners, CapitalG, Fidelity Management & Research Company, GV, Kleiner Perkins, Perry Creek Capital, and Temasek

“Waymo has brought autonomous driving from science fiction to reality. It’s saving lives already, with significantly fewer serious injury crashes compared to human drivers. As it scales in 2026 and beyond, Waymo will boost productivity and accessibility for millions while improving road safety worldwide,” said Saurabh Gupta, co-founder of DST Global.

Autonomous Mobility

Looking ahead, with the capital, it aims to maintain its industry-leading safety standards. It also aims to expand on a global scale by bringing Waymo Driver to more cities across the U.S. and internationally. It also seeks to expand its fleet and team to meet the demand for autonomous mobility.

“This infusion of capital will ensure we are positioned to move forward with unprecedented velocity, while maintaining our industry-leading safety standards,” Waymo co-Chief Executive Officers Tekedra Mawakana and Dmitri Dolgov.

Waymo established a clear commercial edge in autonomous ride-hailing, operating fully driverless, fare-based services across roughly six US cities. It runs its own app in markets such as San Francisco and Los Angeles, while partnering with Uber Technologies to offer rides in Austin and Atlanta. The company is now preparing for a fast-paced expansion across the US, with plans to enter the UK later this year.
