What is happening? Recently, Iraq has been witnessing a surge in stability and a growing economy. 

There has been a surge of Egyptian investments in Iraq recently from industry ginaats like TMG, Ora Developers and Elsewedy. 

The Vice President of Iraq’s Investment Commission estimated Egyptian investments at USD 3 billion. In addition, he expects the figure to grow to USD 10 billion within five years.

TMG in Iraq The Vice President of the Iraqi National Investment Commission (NIC), Salar Mohamed Amin, said that Iraq is in negotiations with Egypt’s Talaat Mostafa Group. The talks are to establish an administrative city in southern Baghdad covering an area of 35 million sqm with an investment of USD 10 billion.

In an interview with Alarabiya Business on the sidelines of the “Arab Banking Conference 2025,” Amin disclosed that Iraq seeks to benefit from TMG’s expertise in building integrated cities to carry out this project. 

He also added that the project is expected  to be implemented within five years. Furthermore, it is expected that the land is handed over to the company by the end of this year. 

Sawiris 

The Vice President of NIC disclosed that Iraq recently reached an agreement with Egypt’s Orascom. This entails building a wind power plant with an investment of up to USD 500 million.

Ora Developers Sawiris’ Ora Developers recently started the first phase of its Ali Al-Wardi residential city in Baghdad. This is part of the larger Sawiris project to build five new cities across Iraq. 

The Sawiris owned construction company is building the city with investments estimated at around USD 7 billion as reported by Alsharq Business.Moreover, the investments in the first phase will reach USD 7B over eight years.

Salar Amin told Alsharq that Ora received a plot of land last week to develop the city in the Nahrawaan area of Baghdad. Furthermore, the foundation stone has been set and the work has started. The Vice President of NIC also disclosed that Ora is currently leveling the land in preparation for construction. The project as a whole is intended to include 200,000 residential units delivered over five phases.
