- WeRide and Uber launch Level 4 fully driverless Robotaxi services in Abu Dhabi, marking the Middle East’s first deployment.

The launch is backed by Abu Dhabi’s ITC and Tawasul, granting the first operational license for fully driverless commercial Robotaxis.
Uber
WeRide and Uber, on-demand rides company, together launched Level 4 fully driverless Robotaxi commercial operations in Abu Dhabi. According to the companies, this marks the first driverless deployment in the Middle East. in addition, it marks the first city outside the United States to host fully driverless operations on the Uber platform.
The launch’s support came from the world’s first city-level fully driverless Robotaxi permit outside the U.S. This milestone is a step towards the large-scale deployment of self-driving mobility solutions in the UAE. Additionally, the launch is possible through WeRide and Uber’s partnership with the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) and fleet operator Tawasul.
Driverless Taxis
On 27th November 2025, the companies made the vehicles publicly available for commercial use. Now, passenger can match with a WeRide Robotaxi through Uber Comfort or UberX. They can also book a WeRide Robotaxi through the new Autonmous category.
Following this, the ITC granted WeRide and Tawasul the first operational license for a fully driverless commercial Robotaxi service in Abu Dhabi. WeRide and Tawasul intend to jointly operate the initial phase on the Uber platform.
This launch aims to support WeRide and Uber’s broader plan to expand their Middle East operations. By the end of 2025, WeRide and Uber plan to extend services to cover additional areas in Abu Dhabi city core.
Bottom line: Abu Dhabi becomes the first Middle Eastern city with fully driverless commercial Robotaxis, signaling an important step forward toward autonomous mobility.
