Deliveroo

DoorDash, a global local commerce platform, acquired on-demand delivery service, Deliveroo. This is after agreeing on the final cash offer for the entire issued and to-be-issued ordinary share capital of Deliveroo. Additionally, Deliveroo UAE announced that it has officially become part of DoorDash, following the successful completion of the acquisition.

With this acquisition, DoorDash aims to strengthen its position as a global leader in local commerce. It also aims to enable this new combined entity to better serve businesses, consumers and couriers.

Moreover, Deliveroo will continue to operate as one of the leading local commerce platforms across its key geographies. It will also benefit from DoorDash’s scale, resources and global reach.

Acquisition

In an open letter, DoorDash Co-Founder and CEO, Tony Xu states that combining DoorDash’s global scale and technology to Deliveroo presents the opportunity to serve more people, in more places, with greater impact. The CEO also makes it clear that the Deliveroo app is not going anywhere, instead they intend on further developing it.

DoorDash started in 2013 with a mission to grow and empower local economies. Moreover, it sought out to connect small, medium and large businesses with local consumers.

Thus, with the acquisition the CEO indicates what developments are to come for merchant partners, consumers and riders. For merchants partners, he indicates that the company’s ambitions to introduce more products and services to help businesses grow. Meanwhile, for consumers, the CEO shares the company’s intentions to make the user experience faster, smarter, and more delightful. To him, this means greater selections, higher quality, better affordability and more ways to connect with local merchants. Most importantly for riders, he indicates that the company is committing to supporting and protecting riders to make delivering easier, safer, and more secure.
