The Egyptian government plans to invest EGP 8 billion to establish six strategic warehouses for pharmaceuticals and medical equipment, according to a government official.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance the country’s healthcare infrastructure and ensure a stable supply of essential medical goods. The construction of these warehouses is expected to be completed within the coming year.
On June, the Egyptian Armament Authority, representing the strategic warehouses company, signed a contract with the Orascom Weitz consortium to design, build, and operate these centrally located, self-financed warehouses.
This partnership leverages Orascom’s extensive experience in large-scale infrastructure projects and Weitz’s expertise in warehouse management.
The strategic warehouses will be distributed across six governorates: Cairo, Alexandria, Dakahlia, Qena, Minya, and Ismailia. Each location was selected to optimize the distribution network, ensuring rapid and efficient delivery of pharmaceuticals and medical equipment to various regions, thereby improving overall healthcare accessibility.
This project aligns with Egypt’s Vision 2030, which aims to bolster economic growth and enhance public services through significant investments in infrastructure and technology.
By creating these state-of-the-art storage facilities, the government intends to mitigate supply chain disruptions, enhance inventory management, and provide a robust response capability for public health emergencies.
Furthermore, the development of these warehouses is expected to generate numerous job opportunities, both during the construction phase and in their subsequent operation. This aligns with the government’s broader economic objectives of job creation and industrial growth.
