NBA Africa has revealed the 10 startups from seven African countries that will pitch their products at a Demo Day at the NBA headquarters in New York on Sept. 25, as part of the “Triple-Double: NBA Africa Startup Accelerator.” The initiative, launched in April 2024, aims to support Africa’s growing tech ecosystem and foster the next generation of African entrepreneurs.
Among the finalists is Egypt’s UBR VR, which offers cutting-edge, fully immersive virtual reality (VR) experiences. UBR VR’s culturally relevant and localized VR worlds allow players to explore both historical and fantasy environments while interacting with one another in dedicated spaces, providing a unique and unparalleled VR experience in Egypt.
The four winning companies will receive financial support and mentorship, along with the opportunity to participate in development programs facilitated by NBA Africa or its partners. Other notable finalists include startups from Rwanda, Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Kenya, Ghana, and South Africa, all focusing on areas such as sports technology, event management, gaming, and AI-driven solutions.
“We are inspired by the talent and creativity of these finalists,” said NBA Africa CEO Clare Akamanzi. “NBA Africa remains committed to supporting African startups and helping them further elevate the sport and creative industries across the continent.”
The NBA Africa initiative, operated by ALX Ventures, supports early-stage startups focused on youth development, digital marketing, AI, and event management. The program connects these startups with mentorship and capital to drive their growth within Africa’s tech and creative sectors.
