UAE-based startup Verbatica has raised $700,000 in angel investment to advance its innovative educational platform for learning English and Arabic.
This funding will facilitate the company’s expansion into the Middle East and North Africa and support preparations for a second funding round scheduled for November 2024. Verbatica plans to extend its services to Indonesia and eventually across Asia. In the upcoming November round, the company aims to secure an additional $2 million.
Co-founded by Nikita Savilov, an MGIMO alum with over ten years at Skyeng, and Nikolay Morozov, Verbatica leverages insights from over a hundred active teachers and employs adaptive AI to optimize language learning. The platform offers both self-directed and teacher-assisted learning options, consolidating resources such as dictionaries and flashcards.
A unique aspect of Verbatica is its Language Quotient (LQ), which evaluates language proficiency in five areas: reading, listening, writing, speaking, and cultural understanding. This includes deep engagement with the language’s culture through books, films, customs, history, slang, and social media, providing a well-rounded contextual learning experience.
Demo testing of the platform is set to begin on August 15, with an official launch planned for the end of August to coincide with the start of the academic year.
Nikita Savilov, Verbatica’s CEO, said that the UAE’s diverse population and high demand for language learning are considered key factors for launching the project there.
He added that Russians were among the top three property buyers in the UAE in the first half of 2024, with high demand for learning English and Arabic for career growth and social adaptation.
