Egypt’s transport and military production ministries sign a $27.6m contract for 100 electric buses

The Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Military Production signed a 680 million EGP contract to locally produce 100 electric buses, which accounts for $27.6 million.

Transport Minister Kamel El Wazir said the government’s efforts to strengthen local auto industries, including eco-friendly electric buses, are in line with Egypt’s aims of %100 local manufacturing.

The EGP 680 million contract involves manufacturing and purchasing 100 MCV SETIBUS C120E.V locally-made electric buses to be used in Phase 1 of a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line along Greater Cairo’s Ring Road.

The deal aims to increase the number of buses along the freeway circling Cairo, in parallel with the completion of the project’s second phase with a total distance of 110 km.
