  • Purple Elephant Ventures (PEV) raised $4.5 million in seed funding enhancing sustainable tourism technology.

To transform Africa’s tourism tech industry, Nairobi-based startup studio Purple Elephant Ventures (PEV) secured $4.5 million in seed funding. 

This round is one of the largest tourism-tech investments in Kenya. It shows the increasing confidence in Africa’s potential leading regenerative tourism. 

Prioritizing Sustainable Tourism 

PEV is hoping to see Africa becoming a global leader in regenerative tourism by prioritizing sustainability and biodiversity conservation . The studio is planning to reshape the travel landscape in Africa while enhancing community livelihoods and reducing their environmental footprint. 

The team has a clear vision to revolutionize the tourism industry and preserve the continent’s natural and cultural heritage and improve its economic growth. 

Collaborating With Global Investors

This funding was of interest to many investors like Fede Pirzo-Biroli (founder of Playfair Capital), Ian McCaig (former CEO of Lastminute.com), and others. 

Five innovative startups were already launched by PEV to address some critical gaps in the continent’s tourism sector. These startups include, Nomad Africa, a travel discovery platform for eco-friendly solutions, Kijani Supplies, a startup offering sustainable hospitality products, and Zafari which is a booking platform serving tourism operators in Africa. 

PEV made sure that each of these startups will align with the vision of building a sustainable tourism sector

After this successful funding, the company is planning to expand its expertise and scale up its services to address the challenges of regenerative tourism in Africa.
