– The Biofuel Company in Saudi Arabia plans to triple its refining capacity by 2025.
– Capacity expansions at facilities in Jeddah and Riyadh will increase total refining capacity to 36 million litres per annum.
– The company aims to support Saudi Vision 2030 and domestic sustainability goals, focusing solely on the domestic market and delivering in-country value.
The Biofuel Company, Saudi Arabia’s pioneering biofuel producer, is set to triple its refining capacity by 2025, as revealed by the company’s senior executive, Gary Hubbard, SVP Commercial & Operations, in an interview with Zawya Projects.
Hubbard disclosed that the ongoing expansion efforts in Jeddah and Riyadh will increase the company’s total Used Cooking Oil (UCO) refining capacity to 36 million litres per annum by 2025. Since its commencement in November 2022, the company has undergone three capacity expansions to meet rising demand.
The current refinery in Jubail, recognized as the largest biofuel refinery in the Gulf, refines 12 million litres of B100 (100 percent biofuel) annually.
Hubbard expressed the company’s intention to replicate the success of Jubail in future deployments, with plans for Jeddah to commence operations in 2024 and Riyadh in 2025, each refining 12 million litres of B100 per year.
The company is focusing on the domestic market and has no aspirations for international expansion or biofuel exportation.
Hubbard emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting Saudi Vision 2030 and aiding Saudi Arabia in achieving its Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets.
He stressed the importance of sustainable growth, encompassing operational, environmental, and financial aspects, while delivering value within the country.
