SAYeTECH’s Big Win: Changing the Game for Farmers

Agriculture just got a glow-up, thanks to Ghanaian agritech star SAYeTECH. On December 4, the innovative startup clinched the coveted MEST Africa Challenge 2024 crown, beating fierce competitors across the continent.

SAYeTECH’s award-winning solutions focus on increasing productivity for smallholder farmers, the backbone of Africa’s agriculture. By reaching first place at the competition, the agritech startup secured USD 50,000 in equity funding

“The funding will enable us to scale production and reduce delivery lead times, providing smallholder farmers with the equipment they need to increase productivity.”

Ohene-Botchway, Co-founder and Director of SAYeTECH

The competition, backed by global giants Microsoft and VC4A, celebrated the best of African innovation. SAYeTECH walked away with seed funding, mentorship opportunities, and access to a global network of investors through MEST’s accelerator program.

Why SAYeTECH Matters: Farming with a Future

Let’s not sugarcoat it—agriculture is the lifeline of Africa, employing over 60% of the population. Yet, the sector battles inefficiencies, from outdated farming practices to poor access to tools. SAYeTECH’s scalable solutions directly address these challenges.

“AgriTech innovation thrives when it’s rooted in the right environment. ‘Find Your Soil’ is about helping innovators find the ecosystem where they can grow. Through the MEST Africa Challenge, we provide the visibility, partnerships, and support to help them succeed.”

Ashwin Ravichandran, Portfolio Advisor at MEST Africa Challenge

Since its inception in 2018, the company has supported over 5,000 farmers across Ghana, boosting crop yields by up to 300%. It’s not just about efficiency; it’s about empowerment.

SAYeTECH’s technology helps young people see farming as a viable, tech-savvy career path. The startup’s victory win is also a nod to global interest in Africa’s untapped agritech market, projected to grow to USD 1 billion by 2027.

Tech Seeds: A Brighter Future for African Agriculture

What does SAYeTECH’s win mean for the future? For starters, it signals a shift toward modernized farming methods, particularly for smallholder farmers who feed the continent.

By incorporating AI-driven tools, SAYeTECH makes agriculture not only more productive but also more sustainable. Their Multi-Crop Thresher, for example, reduces post-harvest losses by 30%, ensuring more food reaches markets and fewer resources go to waste.
