Fintech startup HUB2 has raised USD 8.5 million in Series A funding, led by TLcom Capital, with participation from FMO, Enza Capital, and Bpifrance.
This investment supports HUB2’s expansion, technology enhancement, and streamlining of payment solutions for businesses across the region.
Founded by Ashley Gauzere in 2019, HUB2 addresses the fragmented mobile money systems in Francophone Africa, where regulatory barriers make regional scaling difficult.
Unified Payment System
Inspired by Stripe, Gauzere created HUB2 to unify payment systems through APIs, allowing businesses to handle transactions seamlessly.
Initially focused on e-commerce merchants, HUB2 shifted to serving large corporates and fintechs, now acting as a payment backbone for over 55 fintechs, including Julaya, NALA, and CinetPay.
With fintech clients accounting for 98% of transactions, HUB2 aims to process €1 billion in 2024, up from 70 million euros in 2022.
Future Plans
HUB2 plans to expand cross-border payment solutions, stablecoin services, and card payment integrations, with long-term goals to serve SMEs across Africa.
“Our goal is to offer all payment methods — from mobile money and cards to banking and cryptocurrencies — with seamless integration,” says co-CEO Jean-Rémi Kouchakji to Innovation Village.
Although its vision of a fully interoperable ecosystem is still evolving, HUB2 is making significant strides in simplifying payments across Francophone Africa.
As Eloho Omame, partner at TLcom Capital, added to the same website, “HUB2’s achievements and partnerships are making digital payments more accessible across the continent.”
