Egypt prepares to export first shipment of its locally made COVID vaccine

Palestinian Authority receives 500,000 doses of Egypt-made Sinovac vaccine in a ceremony held on Sunday at the headquarters of the Holding Company for Biological Products and Vaccines S.A.E (VACSERA). The local manufacturing of vaccines positions Egypt as a hub for the production and export of vaccines in the region.

Egypt has already been locally producing the Sinovac/VACSERA COVID-19 vaccine since June 2021 at VACSERA’s factories. Egypt’s acting Health Minister and Higher Education Minister Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar, stated that Egypt has so far manufactured 27 million to 30 million doses of the Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine, and that it intends to produce up to 100 million doses during the current year.

Abdel-Ghaffar also announced the receipt of two million and 158 thousand and 650 doses of the Pfizer vaccine from the US government. This comes within the state’s plan to diversify and expand the provision of COVID-19 vaccines, in order to preserve the state’s gains in addressing the pandemic.
