Gemini Africa participated in the torch ignition ceremony of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) marking the kickoff of the free trade agreement between over 50 African countries. The agreement is lead by the Pan-African Private Sector, under the umbrella body of the African Business Council (AfBC). This ceremony took place last week.

The agreement marks a turning point for commerce in Africa. It will accelerate the intra-African trade and boost Africa’s trading position in the global market by strengthening Africa’s common voice and policy space in global trade negotiations. Gemini Africa is representing the Egyptian private sector in this agreement.

Adly Thoma, CEO of Gemini Africa, “The participation of Gemini Africa in activating the Free Trade Agreement for the African continent is an important part of the company’s strategy, as the name of Africa is associated with us. Additionally, the beginnings of the company’s activities started from the African continent”. He also spoke of Gemini Africa’s is working on supporting start-ups and micro-businesses in various fields through investments and basic financing programs. “Through this and with the cooperation of our partners which include private sector players and governmental institutions such as the African Union, we are taking action on development challenges by preparing and empowering African youth and empowering women,” he added.

The AfBC is working earnestly to constitute greater support of the African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement by the continental private sector while actively engaging African policymakers on any recommendations and concerns expressed by the sector.
