The iHatch Cohort 4 has been launched program amid a partnership between the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The program’s main goal is to empower Nigeria’s startup ecosystem.

Running from October 2024 to January 2025, the initiative will support 185 startups and 37 innovation hubs across Nigeria, equipping them with resources to scale locally and globally.

iHatch Aims and Focus Areas

iHatch Cohort 4 will help foster entrepreneurship and accelerate the growth of Nigeria’s digital economy.

The program offers tailored mentorship, training, and investment readiness to startups in sectors. The categories include such as fintech, agritech, healthtech, logistics, edtech, and civic tech.

By refining business models, developing scalable products, and improving market access. The program seeks to build a more vibrant and competitive startup ecosystem in Nigeria.

Supporting Innovation Hubs and Startups

The program not only focuses on startups but also strengthens innovation hubs across Nigeria. Hubs will receive specialized training to improve their capacity to mentor local entrepreneurs and provide essential facilities, networking, and funding support.

This dual approach also aims to create a sustainable infrastructure for innovation, supporting the next generation of Nigerian entrepreneurs.

Nigeria’s Growing Startup Ecosystem

Nigeria is emerging as a key player in Africa’s digital transformation, with a rapidly expanding startup ecosystem that spans across fintech, healthtech, agriculture, and other sectors.

Meanwhile, the country’s thriving entrepreneurial scene has attracted substantial investment, making it one of the continent’s top destinations for venture capital.

Programs like iHatch Cohort 4 play a crucial role in nurturing this ecosystem by providing critical support to both startups and the innovation hubs that nurture them.

iHatch Targeted Outcomes and Jobs Creation

Furthermore, iHatch Cohort 4 aims to achieve significant milestones, including the incorporation of 90% of startups. In addition, it seeks to enable 80% developing a minimum viable product (MVP), and 30% securing investment.

The program is also set to create 1,000 jobs through its ecosystem, with 70% of startups expected to remain operational six months after completion.
