Merak Capital has launched an USD 80 million fund and accelerator to support gaming startups across Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa (MENA), a region where the gaming industry has seen significant growth in recent years.

Rapid Growth in the MENA Gaming Market

The MENA region is one of the world’s fastest-growing gaming markets, driven by a young, tech-savvy population and increasing internet access. Saudi Arabia and the UAE lead this growth, with both nations heavily investing in the gaming sector.

As part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, the Kingdom also aims to diversify its economy and foster innovation. The main target sector is technology and entertainment, positioning itself as a global gaming hub.

Exel by Merak: Supporting 15 to 20 Startups

Merak Capital’s Exel by initiative is poised to capitalize on this opportunity. The program aims to back 15 to 20 gaming startups. The startups are covering areas like game development, gaming technologies, publishing platforms, and related services.

Moreover, the accelerator will provide equity investment, mentorship, legal assistance. Startups have also access to essential tools and resources. The goal is of helping these startups develop “at least 15 commercially viable and monetizable games.”
